Whelp's Unfall 10.6.2007

Hospital Visit
Dirk is doing fine. He's in good spirits and making jokes. He doesn't want to take any more pain medication. He says 'men can handle pain'.
He also said 'he's like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest'.
I showed him the photos of his bike and he is concerned that the back wheel looks a bit crooked. So maybe a new bike is in order! Any excuse right?
It turns out that the accident was caused by 2 bicyclists who were riding down the middle of the road. He had to pass on the side and that is where he hit the wet pavement. If the bicyclists had been riding on the right where they belonged it wouldn't have happened.
He says the 'sucky' part is that he had been following the speed limit the entire trip!
If anyone has sent him SMS's -- he doesn't know how to access the SMS function on his handy so they will probably not be answered.

He doesn't know, but his parents say they will call the police officer we talked to yesterday and see if he has the names of who called or any witnesses. Maybe there will be some luck and we will find out who they were. I think it is a long shot though.
The police officer didn't know anything about the bicyclists yesterday when we talked to him, and Dirk wasn't able to tell anyone what happened until today.

Sry, i don't know Whelp, but i hope his physical situation will be better!! I also hope that the 2 riders will be caught by the police. (So they can learn from their faults)

Thank you Elin for the translation.![]()
I am not sure where the accident happened, but it must have been close to Erbach since that is where they took him to be treated. I will ask when I see him in the morning where it happened.
I am still missing his jacket and helmet, but I do have his leather pants and one shoe. We have no idea where the shoe was lost. Perhaps it is still beside the street. He was planning to get a new biker outfit anyway so this isn't a big loss. The outfit wasn't damaged but they cut it off him so it is completely ruined.
He hasn't ridden with the svrider group for a while because he said 'they drive too fast' and 'have faster bikes'. His bike is a 650. We did ask if anyone was with him and they said no. Personally I prefer for him to ride with a group so that if something does happen, like this, then he has someone with him.
I'm sure he wouldn't mind someone to visit him. BRING HIM BEER! or something equivilant. I guess the hospital won't allow it hm?

I will be bringing him my laptop and several video games to play that should keep him busy for a while. I hope the 2 weeks go very quickly. We all know how terrible hospitals are, and Dirk hates them more than anything!
Ich werde versuchen einige Fragen zu beantworten.
@Elin

@Whelp/QueenVamp

Martin I don't think you understood it was 'Fahrradfahrer'.Martin650 hat geschrieben:Oh Shit. All the best for him.
But I think, it does'nt matter if you find the 2 riders or not. If he wants to overtake, he has to be sure, if it's safe or not.
He always makes sure if it is safe or not to overtake. He did not see the bicycles riding in the middle of the road since he was going around a curve.
He had to pass on the outside of the road because of where they were.
They caused a very dangerous situation.
What if it had been a car and ran into them?
Martin650 hat geschrieben:I understood it very well, but it doesn't matter. The Police will see Dirk as a racer, and I'm sure that won't change if they catch the two cyclists.
Martin, I don't understand what your problem is that you speak so negative.
He in fact was going the speed limit, and had passed a police radar station with no problems. The bicyclists were driving illegally, and if it was a car instead of a motorbike coming behind them on that curve I am sure both bicyclists would be dead now.
Please be supportive of your fellow motorbike riders!
I don't speak negative, thats reality. You're right, when you say, that the two cyclists will be dead if Dirk drove a car, but I don't think that they will punish them for driving not in a row. The reality is that way, sorry. I hope that Dirk will recover completely, but I don't think that he will get anything from a insurance company.
